Smith) The will of Joseph Sandidge, 12 January 1826, as transcribed from a copy of Louisa County Will Book 7 pages 125-127 I Joseph Sandidge of the County of Louisa and State of Virginia being weak of body but in the full possession of my senses and memory, do make and ordain this, my last will and Testament in the manner following Viz, 1st - It is my will and desire that all my just Debts be paid by my Executors herinafter named ~ 2ndly - I hereby confirm to my three daughters all the property I have heretofore given, and delivered to them, to them and their heirs forever ~ 3dly - I hereby will and bequeath one thousand dollars to be deposited by my executors in the United States Bank, to be delivered to Joseph Sandidge and Elizabeth Sandidge children of my son Ralph S. San- =didge one moiety to each as they severally arrive to lawful age. If either should die under age leaving no lawful issue, the moiety of the one so dying to devolve on the survivor, and should they both die under age leaving no lawful issue the whole one thousand dollars to revert my estate and be equally divided between my other children or their legal representatives ~ 4thly - I give and bequeath to my daughter Martha Trice one young negro wo- man named Matilda and her future increase likewise my old woman, named Keziah, to her and her heirs forever ~ 5thly - I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Dickinson one negro woman Dice and her only Susan and their future increase to her and to her heirs forever ~ 6thly - I give and bequeath to my daughter Candace Goodwin one negro woman named Isbell and her future increase to her and her heirs forever ~ 7thly - I give and bequeath to my grandson Roscow C. Dickinson my negro man Dick and his wife Mary with her three Children Eliza, Dinah and Rachel to him and his heirs forever. The man Dick to be delivered to him when my other slaves are divided, and the others immediately after my death~ 8thly - I give and bequeath to my great granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Roiden daughter of my grand daughter Jane Roiden one little negro girl named Molly the daughter of Isbell, and her future increase to her and her heirs forever ~ 9thly - It is my will and desire that all my lands be sold by my exe- cutors, or such as qualify as such upon the following terms viz one forth part of the purchase money to be paid in Cash and balance in three equal annual instalments thereafter which are to be secured by personal security and deeds of Trust on the promises but the deed or deeds not to be enforce untill the last payment becomes due, the land I purchased of Picket to be sold entire and seperately from my other lands and the ditch on the long branch to be considered as the boundary between them, all the rest of my lands to be sold in one entire tract ~ 10thly - The proceeds of my lands together with all my other estate of every discription not herein before disposed of I will and bequeath to my three daughters Martha Trice, Mary C. Dickinson and Candace Goodwin to be equally divided between them and their heirs forever Having regard as far as practicable to the accommodation of women and their female children in making allotments of them so that they may be allotted together, particularly Lucy and her female children that may be with her at the general division of my estate and as it regards Cain and Molly his wife and her two children Moses & Abby ~ 11thly - The negro man George I purchased of James Dickinson during the lifetime of his wife I wish to be returned to him when the sale of my estate shall take place ~ 12thly - I hereby Constitute and appoint my three sons in Law Anderson Trice, James C. Dickinson & Archibald Goodwin and my friend Frederick Harris Executors to this my last will and testament with a request that they may be not required to give security ~ In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 12th day of January 1826 ~ signed, acknowledged and sealed published - Joseph Sandidge and declared in presence of John C Boxley, Amson Allen, George Harris At a Court held for Louisa County by Continuance on tuesday the 14th day of February 1826 ~ this paper writing purporting to be the last will and Testament of Joseph Sandidge decd..was this day produced in open Court and proved by the oaths of John C. Boxley, Amson Allen & George Harris the three subscribing witnesses thereto, and by the Court ordered to be recorded: and on the motion of James C. Dickinson, Anderson Trice and Archibald T. Goodwin three of the excecutors therein named who made oath and severally entered into bond in the penal =ty of Fifty Thousand dollars each conditioned as the law directs. Certifi= =cate was granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form. And liberty is reserved to the other executor therein named to qualify should he think proper to do so.
