According to "The World Family Tree," Volume 7, pedigree #3550: Richard's grandparents were James and Mary Ratliff. James was born about 1735 and died after 1798, in Virginia. Richard's father was Martin Ratliff, Sr. (c. 1768, Wash Mill Creek, Louisa County, Virginia, died c. 1844, Bath County, Virginia) married c. 1798 to Mary Susannah (born circa 1784, VA. and died before 1848). Martin and his wife had sixteen children.

Richard and Ellen married June 20, 1833 in Bath County Virginia. According

William Rat(c)liff married Elizabeth Catherine Gay, born Aug 13, 1845, in
Lewis County, West Virginia, on Feb 4, 1868. She was the daughter of Andrew
Gay, Sr. and Martha Mary Knowlden of Lewis County. William died Dec 25,
1917 in Lewis County. Elizabeth died Feb 16, 1936 in Lewis County.

John C. Taylor, born Nov 13, 1873 in Braxton County, W.Va.,
a great-grandson of Peter Shields and Elizabeth
Singleton, son of Union Navy veteran Joseph Henry Taylor,
married Martha Ellen Ratliff of Lewis County, W Va.
in 1904. John was killed in a hit-and-run accident June 14, 1936
in Lewis County, W.Va. Martha Ellen (Ratliff) Taylor died
Dec 22, 1956 in Lewis County, West Virginia.
